I am a Colorado native and grew up without the Lord in my life. I started playing guitar at age fourteen and drove everyone crazy with my need for the volume to be at eleven all the time. My life was headed into a very wrong direction and the guitar was the one thing that would take me away from the pain that I felt. I was inspired by guitarists like Vai, Satch and Petrucci as well as the hair bands of the late eighties and early nineties, but also including the metal of Metallica and the sort. Back then, playing was more about speed and whether or not you could play the latest radio hit.
I played with some friends in a metal/grunge band in high school but it never developed into anything that would last. Always trying to play with anyone that I could, I even started playing the Country thing, even planning a move to Nashville but that also died as quick as it started. I virtually all but quit playing shortly after that when I was married and started having children. Life just kind of has a way of taking over and the guitar was put on the back burner.
I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior in the fall of 98’. My life has never been the same since. Not long after, my soul was longing to start playing again. God was not going to allow me to avoid His gift any longer. I started playing again and would eventually join the worship team at my church. I met some of my best friends, spiritual leaders and some very talented musicians using their talents to serve. Playing for worship service was awesome and I pray that the Lord used me to allow others to worship Him! After three and a half years, I still longed to play the heavier music that raged in my soul and needed to move on.
I want to give the youth of today, including those lovers of metal music, the chance to have great metal with a message. Too many people associate heavier music with the negative things in life and I inspire to change that stereotype. I am no longer a troubled and rebellious kid but that does not change the love of the music. I want to reach those same wild and crazy kids that I once was. I have hungered for this for a very long time and have learned that my style of playing is more groove than being the fastest shredder in the world. With bands like War of Ages, 12 Stones, Demon Hunter and even Brian “Head” Welch (formally with Korn), I have seen that I am not alone! God has blessed me with a talent and has directed me to be a fisher of men with it!
